PGA Tour Champions Players

Through The Galleri Classic

April 3,  2025

Australian Steve Allan won his first PGA Tour Champions tournament at the Galleri Classic, becoming the youngest to claim a trophy on the tour at the age of 51 years, 5 months, 12 days.  He was able to enter the tournament because Steve Stricker withdrew.

He earned the opportunity through local qualifying.

“It was hard all day,” he said. “I played really well. The other guys were playing well, too.”

Allan started the day with a one-shot lead.  But in short order, he made five birdies on the front nine.

“Then it's just trying not to get ahead of yourself, and I'm not very good at it most of the time, so was really just trying to bear down,” he admitted.

Allan was even par for the back, finishing with a 67 which was good enough for the victory.

He told what he called a funny story about his career as a golfer.

“I won the Australian Open in 2002 and it was my second year, four years after my first win, and I told my girlfriend, now my wife, it won't be four years until I win again,” he said.

He was right about that.  It was 23 years. His only other victory was the 1998 German Open on the DP World Tour.

The Galleri Classic victory came in Allan’s 28th PGA Tour Champions event.

"Unfortunately, it's been 23 years. It's a big relief to get a win,” he said.

Allan’s son, Liam, was on the bag for his father.

Stricker, who withdrew from the Gallieri with a back problem, still leads in the Power Performance Rankings.  He is 3.19 points ahead of Stewart Cink.

Rankings are based on 12-month performances of Champions Tour players. When a tournament is played, the previous year’s results are dropped. Losing a high finish, dropping a low finish, adding a new high finish or a new low finish affects standings. Players must have a minimum number of points to be included in the rankings, but all players are tracked.
