Through The  Simmons Bank Championship

Padraig Harrington, with his victory at the Simmons Bank Championship, now has 41 worldwide victories.  He looks forward to the final tournament of the season, the Charles Schwab Cup which he has a chance to win, depending on what other players do.

“My intention, when I was a young guy, was to play amateur golf. I only turned pro because I was beating the guys who were turning pro,” Harrington said about his victory total. “It doesn't get old though winning, I've got to say. You still feel anxious and nervous.”

He said he was reliving his past glories with the victory, but added that the PGA Tour Champions Tour is not easy.

“That was the hardest, I think, when I started out on the Champions Tour.  I couldn't believe the pace it goes at. You've really got to get going quickly or else you'll be left behind,” he said.

As far as the finale, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, he is glad it is 72 holes.

“I like the extra rounds,” he said. “There's so many good players, you can't take anything for granted. You do need to have a big week.”

Harrington has had an exceptional year with three victories on PGA Tour Champions and an induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

While Harrington was victorious last week, Steve Stricker still leads the Power Performance Rankings by nearly 2 points over Stewart Cink, by more than 3 points over Ernie Els and by almost 4 points over Harrington.

Rankings are based on 12-month performances of Champions Tour players. When a tournament is played, the previous year’s results are dropped. Losing a high finish, dropping a low finish, adding a new high finish or a new low finish affects standings. Players must have a minimum number of points to be included in the rankings, but all players are tracked.
